The Civil District Court hears some family and all civil law issues including cases involving title to land, civil matters where the amount of money or damages involved is $500–$100,000, and appeals of final rulings and decisions of the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission
The Child Protection Court of South Texas hears all child abuse and neglect (involving the Department of Family and Protective Services, or CPS) cases.
The Title IV-D Child Support Court No. 32 of Region 7 hears all cases concerning child support including establishment and enforcement of child support and establishing paternity. The Office of the Attorney General is frequently involved in these cases.

Any time after an answer is filed in the case, any party may request a setting for trial on the merits or a pre-trial hearing. All documents must be filed with the District Clerk’s office either through e-FileTexas, in person, or by mail.
Parties can request a hearing by filing a motion requesting a hearing and proposed order setting the hearing with the court or orally requesting the court to schedule the hearing and confirm the request for setting by sending a letter addressed to the court and sending a copy to the other party. All requests for setting must include an estimate of the amount of time required for the hearing.
You can request a virtual hearing the same way you would request an in person hearing as described above.
Court staff will contact you after your hearing is set with instructions for the hearing, including how evidence is submitted and presented to the court.
