Rent Relief, Legal Information, and Finding Your Local Legal Aid

See below for rent relief updates, legal information to help yourself through the eviction process, and information about how to contact your local legal aid.

Rent Relief

Unfortunately, as of March 31, 2023, Texas Rent Relief and many of the local rent assistance programs have stopped accepting applications. If you have a pending Texas Rent Relief application or local rent assistance application, you may call Texas Rent Relief at 833-9TX-RENT (833-989-7368) or the local program to which you applied for status updates about your application.

Some local rent assistance programs may still have funds available. Reach out to any local rent assistance programs in your area. Visit Find rental assistance programs in your area for contact information for local rent assistance programs.

For tenants facing eviction who have pending Texas Rent Relief applications or other local rent relief applications, the Texas Supreme Court has created rules to help those tenants stay in their homes and seal their court records. If you do not have a pending rent relief application, these rules may not apply to you. For additional information about the Supreme Court emergency rules, read Tenant Protections Under the Texas Emergency Order Regarding the Texas Eviction Diversion Program. If your landlord has filed a Texas Rent Relief application, read Texas Rent Relief Program: Landlord Duties for information about their obligations.
