Community and Legal-Medical Alliance (CALMA)

Community and Legal-Medical Alliance (CALMA) is a partnership between DHR Health and Texas A&M designed to help folks in the Rio Grande Valley get healthy and stay protected. The idea is simple: sometimes, legal problems like trouble with a landlord or being denied benefits actually make your health worse. Through CALMA, Community Justice Workers (CJWs) and lawyers help low-income, eligible patients, residents and staff address legal issues on the spot at the hospital. If you qualify, we can help you with:

• Housing issues and tenant rights.
• Planning for the future (like medical or financial powers of attorney).
• Appealing denied benefits to make sure you get the support you need.

It’s all about removing the legal stress so you can focus on getting better.
