Eligibility requirements for VA Pension program

VA Pension is a tax-free monetary benefit payable to low-income wartime Veterans.

I am a Veteran. Am I eligible for Veterans Pension?

If you are a Veteran, you MAY be eligible for Veterans Pension Benefits. Generally, so long as you were serving in the military, for at least one day, during wartime, you should be eligible for Veterans Pension benefits.

Does serving during wartime mean that I must have been deployed?

No, it just means that for at least one day while you were in the military, a war happened to be going on. You did you not need to be deployed to the war zone. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a listing of the different wartime periods.

Am I still eligible for Veterans Pension if I have an Other Than Honorable Discharge, Bad Conduct Discharge, or a Dishonorable Discharge?

You likely are not eligible for Veterans Pensions. You may qualify for a Discharge Upgrade to change the type of discharge you received and qualify for certain VA benefits.

Does having Veterans benefits increase my chances of being targeted by scams?

Maybe. Bad actors are always looking for vulnerable targets to get easy money fast. If you think someone is scamming you, you can contact the Federal Trade Commission for help moving forward with your complaint.
