Surviving an Economic Downturn

Authored By: Attorney General of Texas

Many families are feeling the pinch of the slumping economy. Noncustodial parents who have seen their earnings decrease because of lay-offs or a reduction in wages may be struggling to pay child support. Custodial parents who may have been making ends meet on their own may now need the extra help that child support can provide. A child support order that was established three or more years ago may need to be modified because a family?s circumstances have changed substantially. The Child Support Division of the Office of the Attorney General establishes, enforces, and modifies existing child support orders when needed.
